New Music: L’enfer C’est Les Autres by Half Man Half Biscuit

Concrete & Clay

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s this: you’re walking down the street and a couple are coming the other way, arm in arm. They’re taking up the whole of the pavement and they won’t move into single file to allow you to pass. You’re left with only two options… barge into them like Richard Ashcroft shooting a video; or step out into the gutter and risk getting run over by a reckless taxi, Audi or bus driver. This is one of those day to day niggles that annoys me so much I wrote a short story about it called ‘The Day The Earth Stood Selfish’. Well, I’m glad to say I’m not the only one whose goat has been well and truly got by such behaviour. Because now Nigel Blackwell has written a song about it… and damn, if he hasn’t nailed it in one.

Some people don’t know how to walk on the pavement these days
Well, it’s not that difficult,
There’s hardly a whole host of ways,
Here they come, love’s young dream,
Arm in arm, approaching me
Now, I’m not looking for your smile,
I’m just asking for some single file
But it’s not forthcoming so I have to assume
That this narrow path belongs to you,
So therefore you must be
The Duke of West Minster and his good lady wife
So… I tell you what, I’ll just walk in the road
How ’bout… I just walk in the road?
You stay as you are and I’ll just walk in the road

Hell Is Other People

‘L’Enfer C’est Les Autres’ can be found on the new Half Man Half Biscuit album 90 Bisodol (Crimond) along with the songs ‘Something’s Rotten In The Back Of Iceland’, ‘Tommy Walsh’s Eco House’ and ‘Rock & Roll Is Full Of Bad Wools’. Go on, you know you want to…
